Adele Turco

Registered PSYCHOTHERAPIST (QUALIFYING)

“Reaching out” is this skill we’re somehow expected to know, yet it’s never taught and rarely modelled for us. I believe it takes exceptional courage to reach out to a therapist, and I understand the brave vulnerability it takes when you choose to reveal such significant and intimate thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Together, we will work in a collaborative manner, providing you with the opportunity for self-growth and initiate the process of self-exploration and skill-building.

My specialty is in the treatment of low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship concerns, life transitions and chronic pain. I want to create an environment in which you will feel safe, welcomed, and comfortable, allowing you to achieve the growth that you desire. I utilize an individualistic stance to accommodate your unique experience, needs and goals for treatment.

My practice is guided by evidence-based approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with a focus on exploring your past experiences and personal needs to better understand your current behaviours, emotions, and social functioning. In personal and emotional growth, the “fit” between the therapist and yourself is crucial. Our therapeutic relationship will be the foundation from which we build on. I look forward to joining you on your journey.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from York University and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

“Not all addictions are rooted in abuse or trauma, but I do believe they can all be traced to painful experience. A hurt is at the centre of all addictive behaviours.

Who is a candidate for therapy?

Any person who feels as though they would benefit from speaking with a professional is a candidate for therapy.  If you are experiencing difficulties dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, or any number of challenges, finding a professional to work with might be the right choice for you.

How do you choose a therapist?

There are a number of ways an individual might find a therapist.  Searching online will undoubtedly present a number of viable options. Referrals from medical professionals or friends are often useful when beginning a search for the right therapist.

While there are many factors you may want to consider, such as convenience, education, approach, etc., the most important consideration is how comfortable you feel with your therapist.  Following your instincts might be the most helpful tool in finding the right fit for you.
